Underwear - $10.00, Transformers - $60.00, Catching your Child in a Lie - Priceless
Lately we have discovered that our children are developing a habit that we (the parents) are not so fond of - "Lying"! So we have decided that we are going to break this habit before it gets out of control.
It is fairly easy to tell if Easton is lying, he sends out RED FLAGS - "Yes the toy room is all cleaned, but you don't need to come and check!"
Mollie will tell you that she knows what it means to be honest - "Just Say Yes!"
Hard Habits Die Hard!
Easton's 6th birthday was this month. He wanted Transformers - everything transformers!" Most importantly, he wanted a transformer cake. I like to make their birthday cakes, but was a little stumped in how to make a transformer! So I decided that I would just buy some, and put them on top of his cake - I know, not very creative! I went to Walmart and bought 6 of them (because he was turning 6)! HOLY COW - those babies are expensive! By the time I was done, he was going to have a $60.00 birthday cake. I justified it by telling myself that it was going to be part of his birthday presents. But if I put them on his cake, he wouldn't have anything to open! What to do, what to do?
A couple of days before his birthday, (while he was at school) I had them sitting out on my office desk. I was looking at them, debating on wrapping them or putting them on the cake. I just couldn't decide. Then all of a sudden I heard the bus coming down the street. If I am not out there where the bus driver can see me, they won't let Easton off of the bus (he being a kindergartner and all). I left in a hurry and shut my office door thinking I would take care of the presents in a minute. It was a nice thought that had no action behind it! I forgot about them until later that evening when I heard Easton in my office! I ran in there, and he was standing there with his hands covering his eyes yelling "There are toys in here but I'm not looking!" He repeatedly told me "I did not see a thing, I promise Mom!
I obviously knew he was lying, but didn't want to press the issue! Grandma and Stephanie asked him about it also! He denied it to them! But no worries, they broke him! He confessed, but said he didn't want to hurt Mom's feelings! Still not sure what to do about his birthday, Dave came up with a splendid idea!
Easton needed some new underwear, so we bought some and wrapped them up. I also wrapped up all of his transformers, but hid them so they weren't with his birthday presents!
Needless to say . . . Busted!!
